The adorable Bichon Frise has roots in the Mediterranean area and were first identified as a breed in the Middle Ages. The breed was developed as a lap dog for the royal families of France and became highly regarded in the 15th century. During the French Revolution the Bichon breed ended up on the streets where the more common people started training them as circus dogs.

In French the breed name, Bichon Frise, literally means curly lap dog. There are the best known member of the Bichon family of dogs.
The Bichon Frise is a snowy white puff ball. These delightful little dogs are very affectionate, playful, charming yet dignified. They love the companionship of humans and with their mild temperament they make a great companion. The cheerful attitude is the trademark of this small dog breed.

They need people a lot and are most comfortable being close to their owners. They enjoy being a lap dog. Bichon Frises like children more than many other small breeds and are good with other animals. The make the perfect pet for any size residence.
They have round dark eyes with a characteristic inquisitive expression. Their ears are dropped and covered with long flowing whit fur. Skull is slightly rounded with a black nose. A plumed tail is carried over their back.

Their coat is loosely curled consisting of a textured outer coat with a soft undercoat which is curly, thus the powder puff look. The coat should spring back if touched. The Bichon Frises coat is white but can have shades of buff, cream, with apricot around ears or body. They are a non-shedding dog so he is popular with people who have allergies.
The average Bichon Frise's only get to 91/2 - 11 1/2 inches tall and weigh between 7-12 pounds.

These little dogs are easy to train but it should done gently and firmly with no punishment. They need to have socialization training as a puppy to learn manners since they are a highly sociable dog.

Hi! There! We're back! Max has a new picture and we wondering if we should have a contest to guess what he has in his mouth. I do believe no one would win---so I will tell you. It's a brussell sprout that Mom didn't finish. She didn't like it. Max was sure he would and proudly pranced around with the old sprout in his mouth. However, when it came time to "dig in", he just wasn't up for the challenge. So, if you are into making your own dog food these days, due to the big recall, don't put in those tangy old sprouts! We will have more to say about lots of other things later.

Max and Mom want to wish ALL of you the best for 2007! Neither Max nor Mom made any New Year's resolutions. Did you? We should make the resolution to write regularly on this blog, but you know how it is. Busy! Busy! Busy! We think Spring is coming early to California. Last week the first frog returned to our pond. We wonder if the same one comes every year. He makes his "rivet, rivet" sound and waits for a female to respond. Finally, in a few weeks, he will leave.
