Yorkies - Yorkshire Terrier Dogs

How to start a Puppy Thrill

The Yorkie is one of the best PuppyThrills you will ever have in life! This site is dedicated to your Yorkshire Terrier companion, friend, house mate, and pet. This site is not about championship breeding or show dogs. It is about starting your own world class Puppy Thrill!

Editors Note:
*For the 16th year in a row, the Labrador retriever is once again America?s favorite purebred dog, according to registration numbers tallied by the American Kennel Club. The AKC released the figures and, as in past years, the Labrador far outstrips the second-most favorite ? the golden retriever. For 2005, one new breed joined the top 10 list and one got bumped off. The Miniature Schnauzer came in at #10 (#11 last year) displacing the Chihuahua into the #11 position (#10 last year). Additionall...

Yorkshire Terrier as puppy Yorkie!
Yorkies as twin puppies!

About Yorkshire Terriers:

Yorkshire Terriers are originally from Great Britain. Yorkies (Yorkshire Terrier) became a fashionable pet in the late Victorian era in Yorkshire, England. It is said that they were bred from the Manchester Terrier, Skye Terrier, Maltese, Paisley and Clydesdale Terrier. Yorkshire Terriers made their appearance in the United States in the early 1870s and today have become one of the most popular toy breeds - The Yorkie!.

"Floormat: Yorkshire Terrier"

"Indoors or out, this Yorkshire Terrier floormat provides comfort, good looks, and durability. Cushion your feet with our Yorkie floor mat, it combines a soft cushiony top with a no skid bottom. With an upbeat dog design, each Yorkshire Terrier doormat is a perfect rug for the door, patio, kitchen or anywhere in the house. Approximate size on the Yorkie door mat is 18 x 27 inches."

Yorkies (Yorkshire Terriers) are a long-haired toy terrier whose blue and tan coat is parted on the face and from the base of the skull to the end of the tail and hangs evenly and quite straight down each side of the body. The Yorkie (Yorkshire Terrier) is one of the worlds smallest dogs and should not exceed 7 lbs in weight. Yorkshire Terriers may be tiny but they are a big-dog in a little-dog package. Newborn Yorkshire Terriers are born black in color with tan on the eyebrow, jaws, chest and feet. They are fully mature in two years. Yorkshire Terriers are compact in size, sweet in nature and cheerful in character. PuppyThrill.com recommends reading: Yorkshire Terriers by Kerry Donnelly to learn more about the breed.

Yorkies as Pets:

Yorkies have an even temperament, are Intelligent, confident, affectionate, lively, brave and spirited. They make great pet, even with families that have children because they are even tempered. Your Yorkie gets along with other pet and can co-exist peacefully with other breeds, or the family cat. If you are considering getting a Yorkie, or want to improve your understanding of your pet, you must read A New Owners Guide To Yorkshire Terriers.

Care and Feeding:

Feeding your Yorkie a quality food is very important. We recommend Royal Canin Natural Blend Puppy Formula Holistic Dog Food for the first year, then switch over to one of their adult products. Royal Canin makes an adult food, Royal Canin MINI Canine Health Nutrition Yorkshire 28 that is specially formulated for Yorkshire Terriers to care for their teeth and coats, as well as their specific nutritional needs. We do not recommend feeding canned or soft food at all. Dogs need the crunchy kibble to help prevent tartar build up. Whenever you change your pets diet, remember to do it gradually. Mix some of the new with the old and gradually put less of the old in until you are only feeding the new. Always have fresh clean water available. It is okay to have food out for them all the time when they are puppies, especially if they like to eat a little bit at a time. If your Yorkie has a tendency to be chubby though, restrict his diet accordingly. Overweight dogs are unhealthy dogs. If you have questions regarding your Yorkies diet you should pick up a copy of The Essential Yorkshire Terrier.

We also suggest a good supply of chewys and toys. Chewys help to keep their teeth clean, and toys help keep them from getting bored and developing destructive behavior. Greenies are the best! Greenies are a great edible chewy, they love them!

Greenies for small dogs.

They do have wheat in them and some dogs can develop allergies to wheat and corn. A little bit of wheat in a treat is probably okay for most dogs, but DO NOT FEED CORN AND WHEAT BASED DOG FOOD TO YOUR YORKIE!!! If corn or wheat is the first ingredient in a dry dog food, do not use it!

Puppy & Dog Training:

A properly trained pet is a joy! Your dogs behavior is a direct result of the input and response that you provide. Training can be achived quickly in a rewarding environment, IF YOU HAVE A PLAN. Housebreaking, training, tricks, and behavior can be learned by your dog in DAYS, if the correct procedures are followed.

The best dog training programs provide you with a video format so that you can watch the exact technique, words, tone, and actions to use. I used a program with my Yorkie called Dove Cresswells Puppy and Dog Training. The program worked quickly, and with no stress to my dog. Everyone always comments on how well trained my pet is. I recomend Doves program to anyone looking for an easy, fast, effective training program. You can watch it online, so you can get started today.

Puppy Love:

The only way to guarantee your Yorkie will be happy and well behaved is to spend time with them. So many people have told me they wish their dog was like mine, or they want a dog just like mine. When I question them about the problems they have with their dog, it is always the same story. They don't spend any time with it and expect it to act the way they want. I tell them my dogs weren't born the way they are, I made them good dogs by spending time with them. I am not a dog trainer, but my dogs do what I want them to, (most of the time!) because I'm with them a lot and they want to please me. Like children, if you are not there to correct bad behavior, they will keep doing it. I truly believe there are no bad dogs, just bad dog owners. You can have the best dog ever if you are willing to invest the time it takes to make it happen. The rewards are so great, you will never regret it.
